Just because you have a womb, it doesn`t mean that you should have to suffer.
Menstrual problems, like debilitating pain or excessive flow are common, but they are not normal.
You shouldn`t have to endure debilitating symptoms that restrict you.

This is a topic that is close to my heart and one of the main reasons I work in Women`s Health.

A fifth vital sign

Our menstrual cycle is often described by natural health practitioners as being a 'fifth vital sign'.  It provides clues as to your overall health.

If there is a problem - physically, or emotionally, it will show up in your cycle.  You may miss periods or have extra ones that you weren`t expecting.
You may get months of excessive blood flow, spotting or terrible pain. You may fail to ovulate or have short cycles.

There`s so much that can be seen from your cycles.  From the length and heaviness of your flow, to the colour of your menstrual blood.

A defence mechanism
There are many reasons for having problems with your menstrual health.

The last thing your body wants to do is to enable pregnancy in a situation it feels is unsafe.

Every perceived stress on the body, whether you are aware of it or not, makes your body feel under threat and your hormones will cease to function normally.

This can be anything from a very emotionally stressful or fast-paced lifestyle, to exercising excessively in the gym.
It could be consistent lack of sleep, dietary intollerances, pre-existing conditions or eating habits.

I understand all this from first hand experience.  You can read my story here

It doesn`t matter whether you are avoiding or planning pregnancy, it will stop its reproductive hormones from functioning properly, just in case.
This is where the problem often lies.

We make our hormones from what we eat

Your reproductive hormones needed for a healthy cycle, have to be made by your body.
If you aren`t giving your body the foods that provide the right ingredients to do this, the hormones don`t get made properly.

Likewise, If you have any absorption issues, you may not be receiving the right amount of nutrients.

If you have been on hormonal contraception at any point in your life, your ovaries may have gone a bit sleepy. Hormonal birth control also depletes certain key nutrients, vital for hormonal health.

Don`t suffer in silence

Nobody should suffer in silence.

Nobody should have to stay at home for several days each month for fear of bleeding too heavily.

Nobody should be crying in pain.

There`s so much that can be done with the right nutrients and lifestyle adjustments.

If you are ready to commit to making a journey of regaining your menstrual health and vitality once more then please reach out.  Life is too short for it to be uncomfortable.
